Physio Can Be Painful

Weight 216 RHR?

Had the physio on Friday AM. For most of the day my knee hurt.

What was cool was I got cupped! Now before you think that there is a sexual connotation to that statement, I should put you right. Cupping is an ancient Chinese technique of using "cups" sort of tiny Bell Jars (for the scientists in the crown). These have a vacuum applied to them and then they pull blood to the area and causes the skin to lift from the connective tissues.

"Baby oil massaged onto the skin first causes a better seal to form, making it possible to use this therapy with less heating of the cup. It is often possible to slide the adhered cup around on the skin, preserving the suction seal as it glides." - That's what I had.

That's the theory anyway but I must say it made the side of my leg feel great. Donna, the Physio, says that I also have tight IT bands. Now before you think that this is a grunge music band put together by the propellerheads in the IT Department, it is a band of muscle down your side hamstrings.

OK for real explanations click here

Cupping
Iliotibial Band Syndrome
propellerheads - semi derogatory term for IT nerds.

Come on!!!!! I want to get back to real running as I have a marathon to complete. Between the cost and all of the potential injuries, this is a sport for masochists.

Plus I need to fund raise. www.arthritis.ca/joints/ontario/johnjohnston in case you want to help
